Ruth to climb Kilimanjaro. - 25/01/2010
On March 4th, 2 physiotherapists, Ruth Ainley and Ruth Kent, are off to Tanzania, East Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
Ruth Kent is a physiotherapist working on the Lane Fox Unit at St Thomas' Hospital. Both Ruths have always wanted to climb Mt Kilimanjaro, and suddenly it all fell into place.
The climb will also raise money for 2 charities, the Limbless Association and Oxfam. Oxfam is a highly respected charity, and is currently at the forefront of the aid efforts in Haiti.
Ruth A chose to support the L.A. as her friend Sarah's 2 year old daughter lost her leg in an horrific bus crash in South London 2 years ago. Despite Sarah also suffering severe leg injuries, she has inspired us by running 2 half marathons to raise funds. The L.A. do a fantastic job supporting those who have lost limbs, and have been invaluable to Sarah and her family.
Every penny raised goes directly to these 2 charities. Anyone wishing to donate, please see www.justgiving.com/ruthk to support Oxfam and www.justgiving.com/ruthandruth to support L.A. Any amount would be most gratefully received.
Meanwhile, both Ruths are busy sweating on the step machines and going for long walks at every opportunity. At least they are now well prepared for the ice and snow and subzero temperatures!
